Neuroscientist, Barrow Neurological Institute
Neuroscientist; Assistant Professor, Biochemistry, Midwestern University, Glendale
Dr. Valla received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Texas at Austin and joined the Arizona Alzheimer’s Consortium to apply functional markers of brain regional energy metabolism to the emerging murine models of Alzheimer’s disease at the Harrington Research Center. In 2003, he became a faculty member at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix and continued to develop his research program, specializing in brain energy metabolism changes in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s. This work continues at Midwestern University. Dr. Valla has specialized in early detection of Alzheimer’s disease through mitochondrial and metabolic function and holds patents for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease using a novel mitochondria-based approach and device.
