Neuropsychologist, Barrow Neurological Institute
Staff Neuroscientist, Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI)
Dr. Baxter is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist who studies the effects of neurological disease on brain functioning. At the Barrow Neurological Institute and the Keller Center for Imaging Innovations, state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), including functional MRI in conjunction with cognitive tests, are used to map how the brain is affected in a variety of neurological disorders. A major focus of Dr. Baxter’s work is on changes that occur during both normal and abnormal aging. Dr. Baxter is particularly interested in aging in women, including memory changes that occur during the menopausal transition. Both English and Spanish-speaking individuals participate in the neuroimaging and cognitive studies to gain a better understanding of how aging affects a wide range of elderly within the Phoenix community.
Dr. Baxter is the Principal Investigator for the BNI for the Arizona Alzheimer’s Disease Core Center. Dr. Baxter is also a founding member of the Phoenix Caregiver Cooperative Group, a multi-institutional group dedicated to improving the health of those caring for their loved ones with dementia, especially those in underserved communities in Maricopa County.
