Dr. Carol Barnes the recipient of the Ralph W. Gerard Prize in Neuroscience. The Gerard Prize honors an outstanding scientist who has made significant contributions to neuroscience. Dr. Barnes was among the first neuroscientists to investigate how normal aging affects the brain circuitry underlying cognitive processes such as memory. Dr. Barnes has employed a variety of scientific techniquest to uncover the changes that take place in the aging brain. Her work has helped to define neurobiological norms of successful brain aging across mammalian species.
